as promised, the full enchilada :) i was asked to create 2 layouts for the studio calico booth at cha winter (woohoo!), using their new release, countryside. i'm so over the top in love with it that i was fighting myself...i kept wanting to use every. single. thing. on both layouts. notice the presence of that grey woodgrain? ummm yeah. i'll be buying it all up, lol.
so the above lo (that's my super cute little niece, aspen riley) was made using several of the papers in the line, the label stickers, the wood veneer (heart), rub ons (the butterflies), addy alpha stickers, die cut tags, and notions. oh! and mister hueys (orchard).
i made the 'ruffles' by cutting the string at the center of the notions flowers and unfolding them...cut them in half length wise and then misted them. i glued them down pleating as i went along.
the curly q lines were inspired by something i did alot as a kiddo (i'd grab a black marker and a piece of white paper and make a scribble mess and then color each section with a different color- did y'all ever do that too?). i blocked off a 6 inch section with pencil lines (the area between the orange ruffles) and then made large scale scribbles in that area in one fluid motion. using an x-acto knife, i just cut out all the sections making sure to leave about a 1/8 inch 'gutter' around the pencil lines and saving the cut out pieces to use as templates for the patterned paper fillers. i traced the template pieces onto different patterned papers and cut them so that they were just a little bigger than template pieces and then glued everything into place.
this is one of the sc veneer hearts (love them!) and i used some dmc floss and just wrapped it around the entire heart until it was covered.
here's my second layout: featuring photos courtesy of my super talented friend, mer :) this is her, too cute for words little girl, dylan...love that kiddo! thanks so so so much mer for letting me high jack some of your shots :) you're the best! (btw, meredith did the best post ever here on her fabulous blog...check her out for sure!)
i wanted this one to have a more monochromatic feel with the emphasis being on the greens in the line but also adding in some woodgrain and grey (my two fav things right now, lol)...so i punched a bunch of varying sizes of circles to use as masks. misted over them and then punched papers and photos to fit inside of the masked circles.
and real quick like, i'm just gonna interupt this little blog post to say, woodgrain clouds...um, hello lovers. same goes for you, grid clouds...you're lookin mighty fine :)
now, back to the layout...i used barnwood mist which has now taken first place in the grey mist category. love love love it. bluegrass is totally swoon worthy too btw :) items used here, papers, rub ons, wood veneers, label stickers (punched circles from some of them) and dmc floss (who's shocked there?).
on the veneer butterflies, i wanted them to be glossy- couldn't tell you why exactly, i just had it in my head that glossy butterflies would be sick on this layout and i gotta say...i like glossy. i used versamark and clear embossing powder on them...i'm sure that glossy accents would achieve the same end result, however, i can't wait for drying time. the temptation gets me everytime and i end up with fingerprints in everything because i keep touching it to see if its dry...i really need to quit that.
on a personal note: i gotta tell ya, i was completely in shock for days after i was asked to design booth layouts for sc. i've been a huge sc fan for so long so it truly was a scrapbooking dream come true for me. its such an awesome thing to be doing what i love (and what i would do regardless of if i was designing samples or whatever) and getting to see it on display in such a big forum, surrounded by so much talent. so cool.
and on that note...i'm going to bed friends!
hugs, kins
