i hastily whipped up a little tutorial on the construction of my first oa project (the old fashioned candy shoppe layout)...and when i say hastily, i'm not being falsely modest. i took pics without daylight (i'm a night owl) and lemme tell ya- it's very evident, ha! but it'll get the idea across and that's all that matters, hopefully :)
something to keep in mind...i'm going over the process i used and that includes handstitching which means it'll take longer than if you forgo the stitching or use a sewing machine instead...just thought i should mention that :) i will include handstitching-less tips with the steps too. equal opportunity scrapbooking!
first things first...the supplies.
4 patterned papers, cardstock (or layout background paper), large circle punch or circle cutter, pencil, scissors, paper piercer, scallop edged scissors.
using a pencil, trace your circle onto the background paper/cardstock. draw outlines around the circle as evenly spaced as possible (you can also do some thinner and some thicker for a fun, cool effect). label the outlined sections to make cutting a bit easier.
note: if you're opting out of the handstitchery, this is where you'll want to scan the sketched outlines and print onto the backside of each patterned paper.
to do the handstitched method: grab your first patterned paper and put it underneath your cardstock with the outlines on it...make sure the edges line up and then pierce around the pp1 area.
non handstitchers: cut out the pieces from each patterned paper.
this is the flip side of pp1 section after i pierced it and before i cut it out...i cut all of the paper pieces on the outside of the pierced holes (makes it easier to stitch).
after cutting, you should have 3 pieces (small, medium and big daddy).
the 4th patterned paper is optional. it's the scallop edge paper that outlines the other papers. i just pierced the outside line holes through this one (or you can print them as previously mentioned) and then use scallop scissors to cut about 1/4 inch from the outline.
glue all the pieces down...the scallop goes first, then pp 3, pp2, pp1 and the photo. for the piercing of the photo, i just use the outside edge as my guide and pierce about every 1/8 inch or so and i try to stay a smidge inside the edge of the photo (just personal preference). and then stitch or machine sew or not :)
add alpha stickers by tucking them under the scallop trim and slightly overlap them to make the curves appear smooth. add journaling and voila!
hope you enjoyed my little tutorial! i'm off to bed peeps!
hugs, kins
